From an early age, Stan was always drawing anything and everything. While at Pacific Lutheran University, he was either competing with the ski team, or hard at work in the art department. During his years in art school he experimented with ceramics, printmaking, jewelry, and painting, but glass quickly became his favorite medium. After graduating from PLU, Stan was accepted at Central Washington University where he received a master’s degree in glass.
The biggest impact on Stan’s glass career came from attending The Pilchuck Glass School in 1973. Stan was a student to start, advanced to a TA and eventually became the caretaker and purchasing agent for Pilchuck. The promotion moved him into the administrative office and out of the studio. Stan needed a more creative position so he and his wife Colleen left Pilchuck to start Covenant Art Glass in Everett, Washington.
The Prices saw a need for a teaching and working studio, as well as a source of supplies for the county. Covenant Art Glass has been a successful and valuable addition to the community since the doors opened in 1979 and continues to thrive today. Currently Stan is venturing in a new direction of designing and executing gallery/museum quality pieces. His glass career started with blown glass, moved to leaded glass and recently he began combining traditional glass paint with fused glass. You could say he moved from hot glass, to cold glass and is currently creating with warm glass. Being named “Artist of the Year, 2006” for Snohomish County reignited a wealth of creativity that had been on the back burner for a time. New design and technique possibilities seem to be pouring out of Stan: the future of his work looks very exciting! Stan says the only thing more fulfilling to him than doing art is to spend time with his family and friends.
