Product Description

Open Fusing Studio aka Toasty Tuesday!

Every Tuesday Evening from 6:30 to 9:00 pm

$10 plus supplies and firing fees ($7 per 13"x 13" shelf)

So you took a fusing class and now where do you go?? We've got the answer for that!

Please read and abide by the following outline of Toasty Tuesday Etiquette.

Harmony is glad to have a community of fusers who enjoy each other's company for shop time at our Toasty Tuesday sessions.  Toasty Tuesday is not a class with a teacher; it is open studio time which requires a high level of independence from all participants.  Working together in the studio is beneficial for all when everyone is both sharing their knowledge and creating their own work.  Since there isn’t a teacher, you must have knowledge for the type of project you are making.

 Registration & Fees

  • Please register & pay for each session prior to noon of the day of that session.  This can be done online, via phone or in person.  You are welcome to register for multiple sessions at once
  • The fee for Toasty Tuesday is $10 per session.  Firing fees are $7 per kiln shelf.  Thinfire paper is included in the firing fee; all other glass and materials are additional, to be paid at the end of the evening.
  • Only glass and supplies purchased at Harmony are permitted.
  • Classroom glass, "scrap" glass, dots and stringer are not available for use at Toasty Tuesday.
  • Use of cold-working tools is not included in Toasty Tuesday.  Rental of these tools is $10 per hour or $5 for incidental usage.

 Classroom Use

  • Please be considerate of sharing table space.  Each student is afforded approximately 40" x 24" of workspace, depending on the number of people in attendance.  With COVID precautions, we have plexiglass screens available to divide the table so that you can be across from someone and not breath their air.  If you want a screen but don’t see one, just ask.
  • Use of Harmony's Strip Pros, cutting grids, breaking pliers, glass cleaner and GlasTac is included.  Please bring your own glass cutter.
  • You are responsible for finding the things you need to work in the classroom:
    • Kiln shelves are under the stringer display.  If you build your project on a kiln shelf, it can be easily transferred to a kiln.
    • Kiln paper is in the drawer under the reactions chart.  We pre-cut squares in several sizes.  If a smaller piece will work for your project, please use one.
  • Shop slump molds are behind the frit display.  If you are creating an item to slump, select the mold first.  Measure the mold and write down the number for future reference.  Then, put it back where you found it.  Please communicate on the “kiln map” what your thoughts are regarding slumping.  You will pre-pay for firing if you want your project slumped.

Fusing Protocols

  • Know if your project will be a full or contour fuse.  There will be separate kilns assigned for each.
  • Unless the kilns are full or other arrangements are made, you are responsible for putting your project in the proper kiln.
  • You must place kiln posts under your shelf.
  • Place shelves efficiently to allow a kiln to be fully loaded.
  • There is a map at each kiln on a clipboard; place your name in the appropriate space so your project can be identified after firing.  If the project needs to be slumped before the next session write "SLUMP" and the mold number and/or description in your space on the map.

Final Thoughts

  • If it’s not your project, please do not touch!
  • Harmony employees present at Toasty Tuesday are available for guidance in studio logistics and general questions.  They are not teachers and are there working on their own projects too.
  • If you want to create something that is beyond your current skill set or project knowledge, we would be happy to arrange a private class to help you learn the necessary techniques.
