Intro to Fusing - Class Full

Sunday, January 23 & 30, 2022 from 1 to 5 pm each day

$125 plus glass.  Kiln firing and use of cold working tools is included.

** Glass Cutting Skills Highly Desired but Not Required **

Simple to start, endless in its potential, glass fusing is the fastest growing segment of glass as an art medium.  Fusing is both a technical pursuit for artists and an artistic pursuit for technicians.

This workshop is designed for the novice or intermediate fuser who wants to learn the basics of creating kiln-formed glass, how to write a firing schedule, and to explore how glass changes in the kiln.  Each week, we'll spend some time in discussion of theory and how to fire to achieve the desired results.  We'll then move forward into cutting and assembling the weekly project.  In week two, you’ll get an introduction to cold working equipment to give your creations that professional finish.

Tuition includes firing and use of cold working tools.  The supply fee is variable, based on the glass you choose each week.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and safety glasses.  Bring a mask in case we need to use them.  We will mask if anyone in the class desires it.

We require that you purchase any class tools and supplies here at Harmony.  By doing so, you help ensure that your local stained glass store will be here as a place for fun and learning for many years to come.

FINE PRINT - Terms apply to all classes at Harmony Stained Glass. As a courtesy to others, please read and comply.

Glass Fusing Boot Camp may be the most important fusing class you ever take.  This class will give you a foundation for everything you do going forward.  We’ve designed it for the novice who wants to learn the basics of creating kiln-formed glass as well as for the intermediate fuser who wants to improve their understanding of how glass changes in the kiln.

In each class, we'll discuss the concepts you need to know to become a successful glass fuser.  You’ll learn about compatibility, volume control and the warm glass processes.  We’ll also cover reactions, bubbles, how to write a firing schedule and how to cold work your artwork to achieve gallery-quality, professional characteristics.

The class fee covers tuition, firing and the use of cold working tools.  You’ll control the cost of supplies as you select the glass you want to use.  Since the class is lengthy, we encourage you to bring a snack so that we won’t need to interrupt the class for a lunch break.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and safety glasses.
